CAIRO – 5 February 2022: Medical crew has stepped into a tunnel dug underground for several meters and reached Moroccan child Rayan, who fell some 32 metres down an empty well and has been trapped for days since then, said local reports.

Five-year-old Rayan, who fell into the deep and very narrow water well near the city of Chefchaouen in northern Morocco, has undergone urgent medical intervention in the tunnel and his rescue has become imminent, according to the reports.

An ambulance and a helicopter have been reportedly stationed near the place where Ryan fell and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said relevant authorities will announce developments of Rayan’s situation.

Rescuers have been digging manually in the last stages of the rescue operation to avoid harming the child, who has been stuck in the well for four days.

Rescuers have abandoned the option of digging into the water well due to dangers on the child and instead, bulldozers started drilling vertically a hole parallel to the well and horizontally to reach the place of the child.
