CAIRO – 5 January 2021: The bells of the Kasr El Dobara Evangelical Church have ringed amid tightened preventive coronavirus measures in preparation for celebrating the Christmas.

Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, many political and popular leaders, Senate and House members, and a delegation from Al-Azhar and the Ministry of Endowments, as well as intellectuals and media men have been present.

Head of the Evangelical Church Andrea Zaki said the church is celebrating Christmas in the presence of worshippers for the first time during the pandemic.

Zaki told media that the church accommodates 2,000 people, including 400 Muslims.

The security forces have intensified measures nationwide ahead of Christmas celebrations.

The security directorates have implemented an intensified security plan to secure the celebrations through intensive security deployment in all road axes, squares, important installations and places of worship.

Ahead of the New Year’s start, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfiq reviewed Wednesday during a meeting with some of his assistants and top security officials the ministry's strategy for maintaining nationwide security.

He ordered the officials to remain vigilant and raise state-wide security alert to its highest level during the period ahead, to ensure the safety of citizens and secure critical state institutions and religious buildings.
