Egypt’s Grand Mufti: Having COVID-19 vaccines ‘religious duty’

CAIRO - 11 December 2021:  Having the coronavirus vaccines is a “religious duty as it preserves the people’s lives from death,” said the Egyptian Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam on Friday.

 

In his weekly interview with Nadhra talk show on Sada El Balad on Friday evening, the Grand Mufti added that the spread of the Corona virus and the massive deaths it has caused makes people adopt prevention methods of vaccines and precautionary measures. He added such preventive methods are a religious duty.

 

The Health Ministry said on Friday evening that 822 new coronavirus cases were detected over 24 hours in Egypt, upping the total number of infections to 305,652.

 

Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 47 patients died from the virus, raising the death toll to 20,966.

 

As many as 905 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 305,652, it added.

 

Earlier this week, Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar revealed that Egypt has received about 98.4 million doses of coronavirus vaccines since the beginning of the pandemic in Egypt early this year.
