CAIRO – 13 May 2021: An AstraZeneca anti-COVID-19 vaccine consignment consisting of 1.8 million doses arrived at the Cairo International Airport on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Egyptian Health and Population Ministry.
 
The first batch of more than 850,000 doses of the vaccine was given to Egypt on April 1, 2021.
 
Egypt will receive the raw material needed to produce Sinovac vaccine on May 18. According to the agreement between Sinovac and VACSERA, 40 million doses are to be produced in the first year.
 
The ministry had declared earlier that 1.3 million people in Egypt have got vaccinated out of two million who registered on the website.
 
Similarly, Egypt’s leading pharmaceutical company Minapharm said it would produce over 40 million doses of the Russian-made Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine per year, as per an agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
