CAIRO - 27 March 2020: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Egypt's mission to the United Nations in New York, within a group of countries from different regions, promoted an initiative in the United Nations General Assembly to provide equitable access to anti-coronavirus vaccines, especially for developing countries and countries of the African continent.
The statement emphasized the need for international action to ensure the provision of the vaccine and the technology associated with its production in developing countries at reasonable prices, as well as to assert the commitment to transparency and the provision of information related to prices, safety and efficacy, so that the vaccine reaches all people without discrimination.
Ambassador Mohamed Idris, Egypt's permanent representative in New York, stated that the launch of the political declaration represents a firm message that the international community commits to cooperation and work through the United Nations to end the epidemic.
He added that this initiative aims to eliminate inequality between countries in the distribution of vaccines by encouraging vaccine manufacturers to provide them to developing countries in a fair manner through international mechanisms and the World Health Organization.
