Irish media cherishes return of Halawa

CAIRO – 8 November 2017: Irish media and political classes are fond of the release and return of Ibrahim Halawa to Ireland after appearing on the Irish TV show Late Late Show on RTE on Friday.

Ibrahim Halawa is like a celebrity these days after getting off on all charges over the 2013 Muslim Brotherhood protests in Cairo.

Halawa was one of 400 people arrested in connection with the protests, and there was also said to be an alleged murder plot.

He denied all ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, saying that he was just supporting democracy and calling for respecting the box choice; however, there are videos that show him at the Rabaa Square sit-in calling people to stay in the square.

The video says that he came from Ireland to participate in the Rabaa sit-in and attended raids, in which he was injured and moved to a hospital, before returned to join you again.

“We will not leave, and our resilience is life to us and to our brothers who died. We want freedom now and will not leave,” stated Halawa.

Halawa’s father heads the Irish branch of the “European Council for Fatwa and Research”, which is headed by former unofficial leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Youssef Qaradawi.

Qaradawi, himself has been criticized for inciting violence and is banned from the U.S., U.K. and France, and is a designated terrorist in several countries. His influence is strong in Ireland, however, where anyone who dares to speak up is ridiculed and bullied.
