CAIRO – 26 June 2017: Former Liverpool forward Craig Bellmy hailed the signing of Mohamed Salah to Liverpool, describing the ex-Roma's winger as a “big hit" for the Reds.

“Mane made such a big difference because he was always looking to go in behind, so for me it’s an intelligent signing, a signing of the type of player they really need at this moment,” Bellamy told Liverpoolfc.com.

Earlier on Thursday, the 25 year-old ex Roma's winger signed a 5 year contract with Liverpool after reaching an agreement with Roma for $35 million.

Salah’s transfer pact to Liverpool has reportedly long stumbled for financial reasons, as Roma valued him at £40 million ($51 million) to sell him, while Liverpool held out for £32 million ($40.75 million).

“He deservedly got his move to Chelsea, it didn’t quite work out for him, but his spell at Roma was very good,” he added.

Back in 2014, he had previously turned down Liverpool’s offer before playing for Chelsea, where he endured a disappointing spell.

“What I like about him is that he’s always looking to get beyond and get behind the full-back and that’s really what they need.”

“Coutinho, Firmino, they come towards the ball a lot, which is great because they’re excellent players and they make things happen, but you need runners.”
