Egyptian Olympic team coach Shawky Gharib denied that the coaching staff contacted Liverpool star Mohamed Salah to join the Pharaohs in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Shawky Gharib said to ON Sport channel: "There has been no communication between the Olympic team and Mohamed Salah in this regard."

"It is entirely up to Amr Al-Ganaini, head of the Egyptian Football Association Committee, and he is in contact with Salah," he added.

"Honestly, this is very difficult, and if Salah agrees to participate with the national team in the Olympics, he will have to make a great effort to persuade Liverpool to do so."

"If the Olympic team's participation rates remain low for the remainder of the league competition, I will have to choose 3 players over the age to participate in the Olympic Games," he said.

Egyptian Olympic national team won the U-23 AFCON and qualify to Tokyo Olympics 2020 last November.
