CAIRO – 12 November 2017: Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s player, asked the fans to vote for him in the BBC award for 2017 African footballer of the year.

Salah was included on the list after several impressive performances on both the club and national team levels.

Sadio Mane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Victor Moses and Naby Keita are also included on the list.

He appeared in a video on the BBC sport website saying, “My name is Mohamed Salah, I play for Liverpool. Please vote for me as the BBC African Footballer of the Year.”

Salah spoke to BBC Sport, “I had a good time with Roma, also now with Liverpool. I had a good time with the national team.”

The 25-year-old led Egypt to their first World Cup since 1990, after scoring two goals against Congo.

“In Africa Cup of Nations, when I scored against Ghana also it was a great moment. Here the game against Arsenal, and the goal against Arsenal, was top,” he added.
Two Egyptians won the BBC award previously, Mohamed Barakat and Mohamed Abou-Treika, claiming it in 2005 and 2008, respectively.

“To be nominated for the award is a good thing for me; it’s a big award. For a long time no Egyptian player had been nominated, so I would like to win it,” he concluded.
Gareth Roberts, a journalist in the Anfield Wrap website said, “He’s like a one 100-meter sprinter who can score goals, basically.”

Following a wonderful season with AS Roma, scoring 19 goals and making 15 assists, he joined Liverpool in a record €42 million ($49 million) transfer during last summer’s transfer market.

“I really liked the goal against Leicester City, because it`s a fantastic ball from Philippe Coutinho. Mo Salah’s pace is absolutely electric, and it takes him into places that means he`s a threat to any defender,” he added.

He has scored seven goals in 11 Premier League games with Liverpool and five goals in six Champions League matches.

Neil Atkinson, a journalist in the Anfield Wrap website, said, “His pure numbers in Rome were phenomenal. For a couple of seasons in Italian football, he`s been sticking the ball in the back of the net, and it`s something that Liverpool needed to ensure they had in attack this season, and Salah most definitely looks like, and has so far, delivered that.”

“He is very much a proper forward. He`s not a wide player interested in coming to play midfield, he`s a forward, and that`s what has really pleased me about his playing,” he added.
