CAIRO – 29 October 2017: With his participation in Saturday's game against Villarreal, Uruguay's Diego Godin overcame Luis Amaranto Perea as the foreign player who has worn the Atletico Madrid shirt most often, with which he has added 315 official matches.

The Uruguayan central defender arrived at Atletico Madrid on August 4, 2010 from Villarreal, and since then has become the benchmark for the “Roji Blancos”, where he has played seven seasons.

Godin has accumulated 315 official matches, demonstrating his great importance within the club.

Of these, 223 have been in the League, 45 in the Champions League, 23 in the Spanish Cup, 17 in the Europa League, four in the Spanish Super Cup and two in the European Super Cup.

Godin featured in the first match for Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup. It was August 27, 2010 in a match in which the Roji Blancos club achieved the trophy after defeating Inter Milan 2-0.

A debut that served as a harbinger of what has been a successful run with the capital team, in which he has managed to raise five more titles: Europa League 2011/2012, European Super Cup 2012, Copa del Rey 2012/2013, Liga 2013/2014 and Supercopa de España 2014.

His highlight of all these trophies came on May 17, 2014, when his header at Camp Nou in the 49th minute of the last round of the League gave Atletico Madrid the title after 18 years of absence, returning the team to the top of Spanish football.
