CAIRO – 21 October 2017: The final of the 2017-2018 Europa League will be played on May 16, at the Stade de Lyon. The game was held last season at the Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden.
The Stade de Lyon, also known as Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Parc OL, Grand Stade OL and Stade des Lumières, has a capacity of 59,186 and is located in Décines-Charpieu, near Lyon, ten kilometers east of the third most populous French metropolis.
Opened on January 9, 2016, with a construction cost of 480 million euros, the stadium belongs to Olympique Lyonnais and replaces the previous OL stadium, Stade Gerland.
Their opening coincided with the match between Olympique Lyon and Troyes, which ended 4-1 to the former, corresponding to Round 20 of the Ligue 1. Alexandre Lacazette scored the first goal in the new stadium.
The Parc OL was also one of the venues for Euro 2016 and has hosted six matches, including the semi-final between Portugal and Wales (2-0). It will also host the opening match and the final of the 2019 Women's World Cup.
