CAIRO – 15 October 2017: Indonesian football has been rocked by the news that Persela Lamongan goalkeeper Choirul Huda has passed away following a mid-game collision.

Choirul Huda, 38, was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital with head and neck trauma following the accident with teammate Ramon Rodrigues.

The goalkeeper rushed off his line to smother an attacking move from the opposition, but was unable to avoid his defender who was rushing back to clear his lines.

Medical staff rushed to his aid and quickly escorted him from the field on a stretcher and to a local hospital.

Persela coach Aji Santoso confirmed after the game that Huda, a much-loved figure at the club who had played there his entire career since 1999, had lost his life.

“All of the players finished the game and went to the hospital, where it was announced that Choirul Huda had died," he said.

“The loss of Choirul Huda has hit us all hard,” one player said.

"We did not have time to a see a doctor, only to see his body,” another of Huda’s colleagues mentioned.

Dr Zaki Mubarok later revealed details of his injuries, saying that Huda had died as result of head and neck trauma, Goal.com reports.
