CAIRO, 09 June 2026: Al Ahly is close to appointing Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta as head coach on a two-year deal, with over 95% of contract terms already agreed.

The only remaining detail is the release clause, expected to be capped at three months’ compensation. Ammouta is also expected to bring a four-member coaching staff, including an assistant coach, fitness coach, goalkeeping coach, and performance analyst.

At the same time, Al Ahly has officially parted ways with Danish coach Jess Thorup by mutual agreement after settling his financial dues, despite his contract running until June 2026.

Both sides exchanged appreciation and ended the relationship on good terms.

Ammouta brings a strong coaching résumé, having achieved success with several teams. He won the CAF Confederation Cup with FUS Rabat, domestic trophies with Al Sadd in Qatar, and notably guided Wydad Casablanca to the 2017 CAF Champions League title against Al Ahly.

He also won the 2020 African Nations Championship with Morocco’s local national team and led Jordan to the 2023 AFC Asian Cup final, marking one of the country’s greatest football achievements.
