CAIRO, 20 October 2024: Zamalek Aims to Build on Recent CAF Super Cup Triumph as They Face Pyramids in Egyptian Super Cup Semifinal.

Egyptian club Zamalek is looking to capitalize on the momentum from their recent CAF Super Cup victory by adding another trophy to their collection. They will take on Pyramids FC this Sunday in the semifinal of the Egyptian Super Cup of Champions in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Zamalek secured the CAF Super Cup title on September 27 after defeating their archrivals Al Ahly on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The continental success has sparked a wave of excitement and optimism within the club. Zamalek's board, led by Hussein Labib, has also contributed to this stability by resolving internal issues and reinforcing the squad with key signings, enhancing the team’s strength.

If Zamalek overcomes Pyramids, they could face Al Ahly again in a highly anticipated final next Thursday. Al Ahly advanced to the final after defeating Ceramica Cleopatra in the other semifinal. Zamalek is chasing their fifth Egyptian Super Cup title, having previously won the competition in 2002, 2003, 2017, and 2019.

Zamalek is participating in this tournament via a "Golden Card" invitation extended by the organizing committee. Al Ahly enters as Egyptian Premier League champions, Pyramids as Egypt Cup winners, and Ceramica Cleopatra as Egyptian League Cup champions.

Zamalek’s hopes rest on new recruits, including Moroccan Mahmoud Bentayek, Mohamed Hamdi from ENPPI, Polish winger Konrad Michalak from Ohod Saudi Club, and Palestinian forward Omar Faraj. These fresh additions will complement the leadership of veteran Mahmoud Shikabala, alongside Abdallah El-Said and Omar Gaber.

On the other hand, Pyramids are determined to avoid a repeat of last season’s disappointment, when they were eliminated in the semifinal by Modern Sport. The club, still seeking only its second trophy since inception, will rely on stars like Ramadan Sobhi, Ibrahim Adel (who recently shined for Egypt’s national team), Marwan Hamdi, Moroccan Mohamed Chibi, and new signing Sadiq Igohla.
