CAIRO, February 07, 2024: The Egyptian Football Association has ended its agreement with Hossam Hassan to coach the Egyptian national team, succeeding Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the former coach of the Egyptian national team, who left the Pharaohs after the farewell of the African Cup of Nations in the round of 16.
Hossam Hassan had recently returned to training as head coach of Modern Future club in the Egyptian league, before the Football Association needed his services.
After taking over the Jordanian national team on August 15, 2013, and departing Al-Nashama on June 7, 2014, Hossam Hassan coached the Egyptian national team for the second time in his career.
Following his retirement from football in 2008, Hossam Hassan started his coaching career. He worked as the head coach of the Al-Masry Club and led the Port Said club for multiple stints.
Nine clubs were also coached by Hossam Hassan: Pyramids, Telecom Egypt, Al-Masry, Zamalek, Smouha, Al-Ittihad of Alexandria, Al-Ismaily, Misr El-Maqasa, Modern Future, and Zamalek.
Hossam Hassan led Jordan in 11 matches; winning 4 of them, drew in 5 matches & lost only two matches.
Hossam Hassan is the all-time goalscorer of the Egyptian national team with 68 goals. Hossam Hassan has won three AFCON titles with the Egyptian national team in 1986, 1998 and 2006 with Hossam being the captain in 1998 and 2006. Hossam Hassan scored Egypt's winning goal over Algeria in 1989, guiding the Pharaohs to the World Cup after a 56-year hiatus.
