Mbappe at the double as PSG thump Lyon away

LYON, France, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Paris St Germain romped to a 4-1 away triumph over troubled Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday to record a second win in the new Ligue 1 season.

Mbappe converted a fourth-minute penalty, and netted the fourth goal just before the halftime break, as victory took PSG up to eight points from four games and into second spot, two behind leaders Monaco.

The spotkick was awarded after Manuel Ugarte was scythed down by home captain Corentin Tolisso and was followed by a second goal in the 20th minute from Achraf Hakimi after a one-two with Ousmane Dembele.

Marco Asensio made it 3-0 in the 38th minute before Mbappe showed PSG’s dominance with the fourth.

Tolisso netted a second-half consolation from the penalty spot for the home side, who have a single point from their opening four games with coach Laurent Blanc’s future looking uncertain.

Lille took a second-minute lead through Yusuf Yazici’s free kick and held on for a narrow 1-0 home win over Montpellier, who thought they pinched an 88th-minute equaliser when Kelvin Yeboah put the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out by VAR.

After three successive draws, Nice won their first game of the season as they beat Racing Strasbourg 2-0 with Youcef Atal hooking the ball home with a left-footed shot on the stroke of halftime and Terem Moffi adding the second in the 75th minute.

Promoted Le Havre, who were last season’s Ligue 2 winners, also won for the first time this term with a comprehensive 3-0 home victory over Lorient, who were defeated for the first time.

But they had to wait until after halftime to click into gear with Daler Kouziaiev finishing off a 53rd-minute counter attack for their first and then Nabil Alioui’s low shot doubling the score with 20 minutes left. Nolan Mbemba added the third in stoppage time.

Clermont Foot earned their first point of the season with an equaliser six minutes into stoppage time at Toulouse to secure a 2-2 draw.

Captain Florent Ogier, whose defensive error against Metz last week cost the club a third successive defeat, made up for his mistake with the late goal.

Toulouse were 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes through Zakaria Aboukhlal and Frank Magri but Clermont were handed a lifeline with a penalty that Grejohn Kyei converted in the 34th minute before Ogier’s late heroics.

Metz went ahead early against Stade de Reims from Cheikh Sabaly’s powerful shot into the top corner, but Oumar Diakite equalised in the 17th minute.

Teddy Teuma’s left-footed shot put Reims ahead early in the second half, but substitute Ablie Jallow made it 2-2 in the 63rd minute to grab a point.
