CAIRO – 5 July 2017: Renault fans got shocked after Renault’s boss, Cyril Abiteboul, admitted on Wednesday that the team will suffer another year. Renault only picked up 18 points this year.

"We should be in line for wins in the 2019 season; we are planning for a long-term success story," Abiteboul told Auto Motor and Sport.

Abiteboul added, “It is important to put plans in place for the future, but also not to be too distracted with the present; although, we do want to pick up good results to show that we're on the right track."

Renault finished eighth place in the constructor’s standings this year and are three points behind Haas.

Abiteboul talked about tools of success that Renault doesn’t have right now, saying, “You need to have the best chassis, the best engine, the best processes and the best drivers, but we have nothing that makes us that right now. Things will take time.”
