In times where being selfless and endlessly looking after others to make them happy is often celebrated and seen as a noble act, sometimes choosing your own comfort and inner peace is sadly interpreted as “selfishness” or “self-centered” when on the contrary, it is far from it.

Whether it is leaving someone behind or not always being available for other people’s needs even if they are simple, you will eventually be portrayed as the “bad guy” and believe me we all have been there before.

So let me walk you through why choosing yourself is the right thing to do.

Nobody else will save you
While there may be days when your loved ones will be there for the rescue, some situations will require you to only be dependent on yourself. No one can save you forever and eventually, you won't save everyone either. Remember it is your burden to bear, and ultimately you will have to carry it.

It shows self-respect
Dedicating time for yourself and your goals instead of being too caught up with other people's priorities gives you a sense of self-care and self-respect. You cherish your inner peace and mental clarity, making ‘you’ your top priority.

It encourages emotional stability
If you devote more time to taking care of your needs, you will eventually become more self-aware, you will know who you are, and surely be able to deal with life's unexpected turns. Thus, it will make you more aware of your emotions and how to handle them.

It helps in nurturing relationships
When we choose ourselves, we can still nurture our relationships in a healthier and more fulfilling way. By taking care of our own well-being, we become better at genuinely supporting, caring, and uplifting others.
