The holy month of Ramadan is not only a time for us to spiritually cleanse ourselves and deepen our relationship with God, but it is also a time of reflection, to do some inner self-search to identify what can be done better and differently. More than just abstaining from eating and drinking, the holy month is here to teach us discipline, to be kind and generous givers, and to never gossip, lie, or talk ill of someone; in short, Ramadan is here to teach us how to be better humans. This is the perfect time for us to do some work on ourselves, so, here are some habits to cultivate and develop during Ramadan and moving forward.

1. Spirituality
There is no better time to work on our spirituality and build a deeper connection with God. In a month that provides the opportunity for introspection, reflecting on our actions, and seeking forgiveness, we get closer and closer to God, spiritually cleansing ourselves from as many sins as possible. Ramadan is the right month for renewing one’s faith.

2. Discipline
There are so many ways Ramadan teaches us how to be disciplined. Fasting nurtures determination and strong will and controlling our desires and not yielding to temptations helps us practice self-control. Developing that trait has a positive impact on our lives in so many ways; discipline helps us become more productive and committed to our goals and objectives.

3. Empathy and compassion
All religions teach us how crucial it is to be merciful, compassionate, and empathetic with those around us. Ramadan encourages us to incorporate these traits in our lives by practicing the act of giving, donating to those in need. It is in devoting time and effort to find means through which can give back that we become better humans who by making other people’s lives better, we make our own lives more meaningful and better as well.

4. Forgiveness
Ramadan is a month where we let go of anger, resentment, and grudges. It helps us reflect on our past mistakes and take responsibility for our own doings to seek forgiveness from God and those we've wronged. It also teaches us to forgive those who wronged us and to become more tolerant.

5. Gratitude
As the fast pace of life slows down during Ramadan, we have more time to be reminded of and appreciate all the blessings that sometimes we take for granted. The spiritual state of the months brings us closer to God and gives us time to thank God for all the endless blessings.
