CAIRO – 17 March 2021: The Ministry of Culture is preparing to hold cultural and artistic activities nationwide during the upcoming month of Ramadan, after the cancellation of all events in 2020 following the governmental measures taken to battle COVID-19.

The ministry will make use of all its open squares and theaters in the various governorates of Egypt to organize cultural and artistic activities during the holy month, allowing the attendance of only 50 percent of the venues’ total capacity for all events.

The activities provided by the Ministry of Culture will vary between artistic performances, exhibitions, children's workshops, seminars and poetry evenings, theatrical performances and book fairs.

The Festivals and Exhibitions Committee at the Ministry of Culture will hold a meeting during the coming days to determine the type and number of activities that usually include the Ramadan Nights Festival in the North Cairo Wall, Faisal Ramadan Book Fair and the Children's Festival in Sayeda Zainab Children's Garden.

Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem had announced the approval of Egypt’s Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly to hold book fairs, festivals and theatrical performances in squares and open areas with the attendance of 50 percent of the total capacity of the venue, while taking all the necessary precautionary measures in coordination with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and all participants.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Culture, Abdel Dayem thanked the Prime Minister, and said that holding these events in open spaces greatly contributes to the culture and arts industry, supports books and publishing, and creates good opportunities for marketing the cultural and artistic product, delivering it to various parts of the country to achieve the principle of cultural justice.
