CAIRO – 17 June 2020: It can be said that the archaeological reproduction factory of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is a dream that almost came true.

The Archeological Model Production Unit of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has achieved great success in the past years in marketing and selling a large quantity of antique reproduction products, whether through local or international exhibitions, which brought in a high income for the ministry. But, when will the reproduction factory be ready for opertaion?

Amr el-Tibi, executive director of the Archeological Models Production Unit at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, revealed that work is underway to complete the archaeological reproduction factory, and that the work did not stop amid the novel coronavirus crisis, while taking into account all the precautions that the Egyptian government calls for.

Tibi further stated to the press that it is scheduled to complete the archaeological reproduction factory during 2020, pointing out that the factory will be established in accordance with scientific standards to ensure quality of products.

Also, the volume of production inside the factory depends on the demand of the market, as it takes more time to manufacture a piece like a coffin than running a piece like a scarab on the production line. Each piece has its own method of manufacturing.

Archaeological reproductions, sometimes called archeological models, now constitute a major industry within the Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities. It generates a large income and is considered one of the ministry's resources that generate a huge annual return.

Archeological models are displayed at outlets inside archaeological museums such as the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Islamic Art Museum.
