Kamla Abu Zekri's 'Yom Lel Setat' to screen in Canada on April 3

CAIRO - 1 April 2019: Controversial actress Nahed el-Sebai is awaiting the screening of “Yom Lel Setat” (A Day for women) on April 3, at the LA SPEC Film Club in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Canada; the movie is directed by Kamla Abu Zekri.

The producer of the film, actress Elham Shahin, clarified that the film screened in a number of cities around the world including the Lebanese city of Sidon and the RECIDAK Festival in Senegal, in addition to the Arab Film Festival in Zurich and the French capital, Paris.

Shahin explained that the film won seven awards, as it participated in the Cairo International Film Festival’s official competition where Sebaie won the Best Actress Award. The film also won the Audience Award at the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival, in addition to the Best Screenplay Award at the Sulaymaniyah International Film Festival in Iraq, among others.

“Yom Lel Setat” is made entirely by women as it is starring and is produced by Ilham Shahin, is directed by Kamla Abu Zekri, and is written by Hana Atieh. Actresses Nelly Karim, Nahed el-Sebai, Hala Sedki, Raja Hussein and Shaima Saif are among the female cast.

The male actors participating in the film include Mahmoud Hemida, Farouk al-Fishawi, Ahmed al-Fishawi, Eyad Nassar and Ahmed Daoud.

The film revolves around a shabby district in Cairo, where the neighborhood’s Youth Centre specializes a day for women to use the swimming pool. As ladies and girls arrive to the pool and mingle, events escalate, changing their outlook on themselves, and life as a whole.
