CAIRO – 3 December 2018: The Egyptian film “El-Deif” (The guest) starring Jamila Adel Awad was granted the Public Award in Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. The film represented Africa in the film festival.
“El-Deif" is the second film written by journalist and writer Ibrahim Issa after "Mawlana". The movie revolves around a young man who comes to a family during dinner, and then unexpected events develop. "El-Deif" is starring Khaled al-Sawi, Shireen Reda, and Jamila Awad. Majid al-Kadwani and Mohammed Mamdouh participate as guests of honor.
“Mawlana” (The Sheikh), starring Amr Sa’ad and Dorra Zarrouk, revolves around a traditional journey of a young sheikh who moves from leading prayers to becoming a TV celebrity issuing "fatwas" that are accepted by millions who have become his fans as a result of his courage and his attempts to deviate from the usual religious rhetoric in a society heavily influenced by fundamentalism.
Jamila Awad is an Egyptian actress. She was born in an artistic home to director Adel Awad, and actress Randa; Jamila is the granddaughter of famous comedian Mohamed Awad.
She graduated from the Faculty of Mass Communication, and then channeled her inner artistic side to acting when she got cast as Hania, a young drug abuser, in the TV series "Taht El-Saytara" (Under Control).
