CAIRO – 20 December 2017: A lovely Arabic music (Maqam) night will take place at Room Art Space & Café on December 22. The night will be performed by a number of Egyptian musicians: Mohammed Antar on Nay (Flute), Wael El Sayed on Percussions and Youssef El Ashy on Oud.

The ensemble will present a number of Arabic Maqam compositions that were composed by Mohammed Antar.

Arabic Maqam is a set of notes that defines the relationships between different Arabic traditional music melodies. The concept of Maqam was first introduced and written during the 14th century by Al Sheikh Al Safadi and Abdulqadir Al Maraghi.

The Arabic Maqam scales are made from sets of consecutive notes that have a very recognizable melody called “Ajnas.”

There are different 12 “Jins” in the Arabic music such as Hegaz, Ajam, Kurd and Rast.
