The 39th Cairo International Film Festival kicked off Tuesday. The opening cermony started with the festival’s orchestra playing the sountracks of number of famous Egyptian and worldwide classic films, like “Brave Heart” and “El Ard” (The Land), followed by a song of famous singer Assala Nasri.

Egyptian actor Asser Yassin, host of the 39th edition, started his speech by praising all those who supported the festival. “Most of us see that the European and American cinemas are the best, but without any kind of bias, we have Egyptian movies and Egyptian filmmakers who are equal or even more talented,” Yassin recounted.

Yassin added that the Egyptian cinema is the main source of pride for Arab cinema. “CIFF encourages dialogue between different cultures through cinema.’’

Yassin thanked DMC channel, the main sponsor of the festival. He said, “We are honoured to dedicate this edition to the heartthrob Shadia.”

Yassin declared that Australia is the festival guest of honor and announced that jewelry company Bulgari is one of the festival’s sponsors for the first time. The head of Bulgari in the Middle East thanked the attendees and said, “Long live Egypt.”.
