CAIRO - 28 July 2017: The late wife of the late Shah of Iran, Empress Farah Farah Diba, accompanied the wife of the late former president of Egypt Anwar Sadat, Jehan Sadat, to the grave of her husband and a close friend of the Shah of Iran with a bouquet of flowers in Nasr City on Thursday.

Diba, and Jehan Sadat have a friendship that started in 1970 when President Anwar Sadat stepped up to power in Egypt and established a higher level of relations with the Shah of Iran, including a number of memorandums and political and economic agreements unmatched in bilateral relations.

Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, found refuge in Cairo after the Iranian Revolution on January 16, 1979. A little over a year later, he died from cancer and was buried in Al Rifa’i Mosque in Cairo where his father, Reza Shah was also buried.

In late 1981, President Sadat was assassinated by one of the federal officers during the annual triumph parade in Cairo in Nasr city.
