Sawy to host its 13th edition of Documentary Film Festival

CAIRO – 24 July 2017: Documentary and film lovers are invited to apply for the 13th edition of 'El Sakia Festival for Documentary film,' a competition focusing on Cinematography that is accepting applications until August 10. The competition will be taking place in El Sawy Culture Wheel on August 30-31.

The festival focuses on films documenting a specific event or person, tracking their history, and considering this subject for study and research, according to the El Sawy Culture Wheel official website.

The competition features two winning categories; long documentary films which range from 20 to 45 minutes, where the jury will select a film to be awarded the Best Film Award, worth LE 3000 ($167) and a golden statue, and the Jury Award which is worth of LE 1500 ($84) and a silver statue. The other category feature the short documentary films, which is less than 20 minutes where the jury selects a film for the Best Film Award worth LE 3000 and a golden statue and the Jury award worth LE 1500 and a silver statue.

The competition, open for profit and non-profit institutions, requires applicants to submit their entries through DVD/ CD, that the film was produced during the past year, and that the film was not submitted in El Sakia’s previous festivals. Applicants may participate through filling a submission form found on the official website and Facebook, submitting a letter explaining the participant’s presented works, and a film overview with photos to be viewed on CD.
