CAIRO – 23 July 2017: An ancient Egyptian mural, that was part of the foundations of a Mosque in Beheira governorate, was detached and moved temporarily to a storage unit in Rashid town, the Ministry of Antiquities announced on Sunday.
The Associate Minister for Archeological Sites Mohamed Abdel Latif told the press that the mural will be studied first before it is moved to the Tal El Yahoudeya storage house in Dakahleya governorate.
Assuring that the cleaning and restoration were done on site, Abdel Latif said that the mural was discovered while restoring Abou Shosha Mosque in Deirout Village.
The mural is a rectangular sandstone piece of 2.5 m in length, 50 cm in width and 35 cm in thickness.
The language carved on the piece is Hieroglyphics, but the dynasty to which it belongs is not clear.
