CAIRO - 31 January 2024:  Spanish writer Carmen Ruiz expressed her solidarity with the Palestinian cause during a talk at the 55th Cairo International Book Fair.

Ruiz, who is a scholar of Spanish literature, spoke about her admiration for the Arab world and her support for the Palestinian people. She said that she was "happy to be so close to Palestine, in the heart of the Arab world."

Ruiz also spoke about her work as a publisher and her plans to launch a new magazine that will focus on contemporary Arab culture. She said that she is committed to promoting understanding and cooperation between the Spanish and Arab worlds. She continued, "The second book was the final part of Taha Hussein's work, and my colleagues and I were amazed by what Taha Hussein said about Egyptian universities and Al-Azhar. How he changed the beginning of his speech from 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' to 'Good morning.' I hope the institute resumes its work because it is almost closed, and its doors are not open to everyone unless you contact them and specify what you want from the institute."

Egyptian Minister of Culture Dr. Nevine El-Kilani welcomed Ruiz to the book fair and praised her work. She said that Ruiz's presence at the fair was "an important and significant event."
