From Rap To Pop, Egyptian Songs Released in 2023

2023 was the year of creativity and new projects.
 

 

Many artists across all genres released new projects and powerful songs. 

 

A singer and rapper, Afroto recently entered the music scene, but quickly became known with his unique rap and music style. The rapper, which has been creating music since 2020, put out his latest song Halain January of this year.
 

 

 

The single has a steady electronic background track, with Afroto singing in a comfortable manner. The song is different from his usual fast-paced tracks, and is more with melodic than lyrical. Since its release, Hala has received six million plays, and has been greatly popularized. 

 

Amr Diab, the famous singer dating back to the early 2000s, launched a new song in February of this year, Batamen Aleik. Diab is well known for his song about love and romance, and is popular not just in Egypt, but internationally as well. Since his initial release in the late 1980s, Diab has released 36 studio albums, as well as singles throughout his career. His latest song takes after his signature style, with instrumental pop music and a relaxed melody.   

 

The rapper Wegz recently released the song 7elwa Menak for the soundtrack of the film VOY!VOY!VOY!" which came out earlier this year. The song, which has amassed almost two million plays to date, follows the artists usual style, with energetic lyrics and slow but bold background music. The rapper previously went on tour this year, and has been raising awareness and showing solidarity through his shows and activism for Palestine. 

 

Cairokee, a well-known band established in 2003, rose to fame in 2011, following the revolution in Egypt. Their songs are packed with emotional lyrics and powerful messages, connecting with their listeners and touching on important subjects. Their latest release, Telk Qadeya, came out in November, and has received praise across the internet. The single came out in response to the genocide in Gaza, and has a slow, melancholy pace. Its simple music and gentle pace has a moving impact on the listener, and shows solidarity with the people of Palestine. 

 

Similarly, Sharmoofers, a band known for their unique and upbeat music style, released the song Resala, on December 5. Sharmoofers released their first song in 2013, followed by their first album in 2015. Their newest track is meant to be a message to Israel among the tragic events in Palestine. The song, translated to Hebrew, incorporates their signature music style and poignant lyrics, outlining the reality of the happenings in Palestine. The songs has garnered over 100 thousand plays thus far, and is seen as an important anthem in the midst of the war.
