Following its world premiere at the Sharm El-Sheikh Film Festival, Mohamed Hosny Yassin’s debut short OVERCAST is set to compete as part of the Egyptian Short Film Competition of the fifth edition of the Cairo International Short Film Festival, which kicked off at Cairo Opera House on December 19th and will continue to December 22.

OVERCAST — which will screen on Thursday, December 21st at 7:15 pm — follows Diab, who has returned to his village with a wife and is keen to hide her from everyone to the extent of forbidding her from social engagement.

As time passes, circumstances force him to seek his neighbors’ help. Such an emergency will make him question his radical thoughts and his beliefs about real manhood.

With MAD Solutions handling distribution, the film stars Lobna Wanas, Ali Shawky, Dalia Ramzi, Mary Girgis, and Emad Maher, and is helmed by Yassin — an Egyptian filmmaker who has been a member of the Egyptian Cinema Syndicate and has worked in the video content industry independently for many years.

While studying at the High Cinema Institute, he established MHY Films and produced several ads and music videos.

His first documentary film, WHEN PEOPLE ARE SATISFIED!, was produced by the High Cinema Institute in 2019 and won several awards, including the National Film Festival Award for Best Documentary Film.
