SITFY Announces the Details of “Essam El-Sayed” Competition for the First Work in Its Eighth Edition

‏Sharm El-Sheikh International Theater Festival for Youth (SITFY), chaired by director Mazen El-Gharabawy, announces the First Work of Youth competition in its fifth edition- in collaboration with the iconic director Essam El-Sayed, within the proceeding of the eighth edition, scheduled to take place between November 25 to 30, 2023, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt.
 
‏SITFY’s founder and president, artist Mazen El-Gharabawy, stated that this award is granted in search for young theater directors who are presenting their first works which motivate them to continue their journey in the world of theatrical directing. Additionally, this competition aims at supporting emerging talents, and male and female directors with a scientific view in order to enhance their capabilities in an optimistic way which highlights their promising energies.
 
‏Regarding the terms and conditions of the competition, they are as follows: opening the door for participation as of Saturday, July 15, 2023 -for a couple of months- until Friday, September 15, 2023.
 
The award secretariat won’t accept works that are submitted after the previously-mentioned deadline, unless otherwise indicated. Egyptian directors who are presenting their first works are welcome to apply for the competition, highlighting that the work doesn’t exceed the third trial for amateur directors, and the first trial for professional directors.
 
‏The terms also include: the age of each director should not be exceeding (35) by November, 2023. Furthermore, male and female directors should be Egyptian. Each work should contain unique creative and directing attributes and shouldn’t be imitating other works. Moreover, each work should be integrated, in terms of acting, directing, decoration, and music. Works that are related to our community, shedding light on social and humanitarian concerns, are preferable. All types of works are accepted; independent, university, or governmental productions. The work must have been presented before in a public way and produced in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Young people who are interested in theater are welcome to apply for the competition, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in the north, south, east, or west. The committee has the right to withhold awards if no one deserves them.

‏The works shall be sent in photocopied pages with a biography of the director, two high-quality photos, ID copy, mobile number in order to ease communication, and a signed acknowledgment for the applicant indicating that the presented work does not exceed the amateur director’s third trial and the professional director’s first trial.

‏Directors should send their works via email, including the acknowledgment, play links, and a technical and media file. Additionally, directors should send the show tape on a high-quality DVD. Theatrical works won’t be accepted, unless they are viewed by the festival’s management board, to guarantee they follow the terms of the watching committee and be nominated for competing for the award. A director should not have participated in another competition through the same show before. The deadline for receiving theatrical works is 15/9/2023. Works shall be sent to the following email:

‏The award shall be canceled if these terms are not followed. All legal measures will be taken by the festival’s management board in this case. Those who do so shall bear criminal and moral responsibilities. Submitted scripts will be assessed and evaluated by a specialized scientific committee, formed by SITFY’s management board. The committee will begin its work once the deadline is over.
 
‏Concerning the competition prizes, the winning director shall receive a financial award through director Essam El-Sayed. This award will be presented to him within the proceedings of the eighth edition. Furthermore, the winning director shall receive a certificate of appreciation for the First Work of Youth in its fifth edition, within the proceedings of the eighth edition. The winning director will be invited to attend the events of the eighth edition of SITFY, scheduled to take place between (25-30) November, 2023, in Sharm El-Sheikh, in addition to a free participation in one of the festival’s workshops. The festival’s management board shall nominate one of the winning scripts of Mustafa Selim Competition for Theatrical Playwriting to be a new project for the winning director. Additionally, the festival is to nominate the winning director to direct the opening or closing ceremony of the ninth edition, 2024.
 
‏It is noteworthy that the upcoming edition of SITFY bears the name of Dr. Samira Mohsen. Veteran actress Samiha Ayoub is SITFY’s honorary president, and veteran actor Mohamed Sobhy is the president of SITFY’s higher committee. Dr. Engy El-Bestawy is SITFY’s managing director. The festival is held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevine Al-Kilani and South Sinai Governor, Major-General Khaled Fouda.
