This elaborate mirror case was carved in the shape of an ankh and was intended as a visual pun.

The word for mirror in ancient Egyptian was also ankh, the sign for life.

The case is decorated with king Tut’s throne name, flanked by two cobras on each side, using colored glass and precious stone.
