CAIRO – 17 July 2022: World Day for International Justice is an occasion celebrated around the world on July 17 in recognition of the emerging system of international criminal justice.

July 17 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. It is the treaty that established the International Criminal Court.

The countries participating in the Rome Statute Review Conference held on June 1, 2010, decided to choose July 17 as International Criminal Justice Day.

On this day, people around the world host events in support of international criminal justice, in particular the International Criminal Court. The day was successful in attracting global media.

Also on this day, events are held to commemorate specific issues such as the genocide in Darfur, the suppression of Falun Gong in China, and crimes of violence against women.
