CAIRO – 17 July 2022: The Supreme Council of Antiquities has begun a project to restore and develop the Tombs of the Nobles and Qubbet el-Hawa in Aswan, in preparation for opening them for visits in the upcoming period.
Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri explained that this comes within the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' plan to restore and develop archaeological sites nationwide, especially in Upper Egypt.
Waziri pointed out that the Tombs of the Nobles and Qubbet el-Hawa were chosen because of their great historical and archaeological importance, and the fascinating inscriptions these tombs contain.
For his part, Head of the Central Administration of Upper Egypt Antiquities Mohamed Abdel Badie said that the restoration and development of the Tombs of the Nobles included paving the roads leading to the sites and developing the internal and external lighting systems, in addition to making an external panorama of the general site and adding some indicative and introductory panels to the area.
As for the restoration and development work that is taking place in Qubbet el-Hawa, Abdel Badie explained that it includes the restoration of two cemeteries from the New Kingdom.
It should be noted that the restoration work being carried out in Qubbet el-Hawa comes in cooperation with the Egyptian-German joint mission.
