CAIRO – 29 March 2022: On the occasion of the release of her novel "Jesolo" in Arabic, the Austrian Cultural Center is hosting the Vienna-based writer Tanja Raich to read excerpts from her novel in Cairo on March 30 at 6 pm at Beit Yakan [Yakan House].

The reading will be in German and Arabic and will be accompanied by a selection of short animation films inspired by the novel.

“Jesolo” is about ten months in the life of a young woman who is forced to make several compromises in order to comply with societal expectations regarding her role as a mother. She has a house, two cars, and a child. Everything that the protagonist of the novel, Andrea, could not have imagined, has become, without introduction, her new reality.

The event is a joint project with the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University. The students of the faculty made animated films that will be screened for the first time in this event.
