1979 - Mother Teresa is announced winner the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian efforts to help the poor in India and the world.

 

 

 

1980 - Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom makes a historic visit to the Vatican, where she becomes the first queen to visit the Supreme Pontiff.

 

 

 

2001 - The Syrian Writers Association in Exile is established in London.
