CAIRO - 17 July 2021: After her dazzling performance in the 2019 refugee drama Oboor, Mohamed Diab chose Tara Abboud to play a leading role in his new anticipated film Amira.
The film is produced by two-time Academy Awards nominee and Golden Globe-winner, Palestinian filmmaker Hany Abu-Assad, in association with the Egyptian producer and writer Mohamed Hefzy.
Born in 2001, Amman, Tara Abboud is a Palestinian-Jordanian actress who was selected as one of Screen International’s Arab Stars of Tomorrow at the 42nd Cairo International Film Festival in 2020.
Tara’s first foray into the film industry was at the age of 10, through the graduation film projects done by directors at the Red Sea Institute for Cinematic Arts.
These projects included Motaz Matar’s film Min Wara' Albab and Tima Shomali’s film Log In.
Afterwards, Tara played her first leading role in director Amjad Al Rasheed’s Princess of the Mountains (2009), alongside artist Amer Alkhuffash.
During high school, Tara took a further step playing leading roles in a number of theater performances directed by her school’s Drama Club instructor Diab Shahin.
She took part in two more filmmaking graduation projects for directors at the SAE Institute in Amman; 12 CM (2014) film by Zaid Khaled and Hayat (2019) by director Leen Awad, both of which won awards.
Born into an artistic family, Tara Abboud’s aunt, Jordanian actress Dina Ra'ad-Yaghnam, encouraged her to pursue acting. Tara studied Medicine, but she’s multitalented; she masters dancing, singing and playing on the piano and has been a professional ballerina for over fourteen years.
