CAIRO - 18 November 2020: Finance Minister Mohamed Ma'it has decided to suspend membership of five accountants and auditors implicated in a tax evasion case.

The Public Prosecution already referred all five defendants to trial.

They will be removed from the record of accountants and auditors, said Ma'it in a statement Wednesday.

Such instants of wasting state funds will not be tolerated, he stressed.

The accountants had allegedly helped clients to evade payment of taxes through endorsing their tax returns and rigging their financial records to deceive the tax authority into believing that their profits were declining, thus not paying all their dues.

Ma'it stressed that the government is firm on fighting all forms of tax evasion by the force of law. This, he added, is done to guarantee tax justice is achieved.

Taxes contribute to maximizing state treasury revenues, the minister explained, noting that attempts to harm the state will not be tolerated.

He said his Ministry is acting to develop advanced electronic mechanisms - such as the e-returns and e-bills - to help achieve tax justice and reduce evasion cases.
