Egypt, Switzerland mull 2017-2020 joint cooperation strategy

CAIRO - 9 June 2017: Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr discussed with Swiss Ambassador in Cairo Markus Leitner the current status of the 2017-2020 cooperation strategy between the two countries, the ministry said in a Friday statement.

The strategy attaches importance to Egypt’s priorities to achieve higher economic growth rates, combat poverty and unemployment, promote the private sector’s role in development process as well as to support the women’s role in society.

The two sides agreed on some amendments to the strategy, ahead of being launched soon in a way that helps meet the Egyptian people’s demands in the current stage.
The minister underscored the importance of the 2017-2020 strategy, given that it shows interest in improving the people’s standards of living, achieving comprehensive economic development, reducing unemployment and illegal immigration, in addition to empowering women and youth.

Egypt is moving forward to implement social protection measures as part of the government’s economic program, the minister said.

Meanwhile, Nasr lauded the Egyptian-Swiss cooperation ties at the economic and development levels, affirming in this regard the pivotal role played by Switzerland in the development process in Egypt.
