CAIRO – 24 February 2018: Remittances from expatriate Egyptians in Jordan stood at $80 million in January, the Egyptian Embassy in Jordan said.
In a report sent to the Minister of Manpower, the embassy said that some 14,000 job permits have been issued for Egyptians to work in Jordan.
Total remittances from Egyptian expatriates recorded $29.1 billion during the period from November 2016 to December 2017, compared to $24.4 billion in the same period of 2015/2016, the latest data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) showed.
The data showed that the total remittances achieved a 19.2 percent increase of $4.7 billion.
The CBE said that the total remittances in December 2017 increased 29.3 percent to $2.6 billion, compared to $2 billion in December 2016.
According to previous data from CBE, remittances increased to $26.4 billion since floating the Egyptian pound in November 2016 and until November 2017, compared to $22.3 billion in the same period a year earlier.
Remittances increased by $2.4 billion in the period between July and November 2017 to stand at $10.4 billion, compared to $8.1 billion in the same period of 2016.
In the month of July 2017 alone, remittances increased by 5.8 percent year-on-year to register $2.2 billion, according to the CBE.
