Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohamed Barkindo, during his speech at 'EGYPS 2018'
CAIRO – 12 February 2018: Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohamed Barkindo said that Egypt has become one of the main sources of energy in the region, according to his speech in the second edition of Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2018) on Monday.
Barkindo noted that the recent oil discoveries in Egypt are sources of energy for the surrounding region and the world.
Barkindo added that Cairo had set the track that OPEC follow since 1959, affirming that the oil industry is one of the leading industries in the world.
Barkindo revealed that OPEC’s current production reached 340 million barrels per day and the organization sought to rebalance the oil market.
Egypt is expected to stop imports of liquefied gas by the June 2018, as production on the country’s giant Zohr gas field is set to start before the end of 2017, Minister of Petroleum Tarek el- Molla said recently.
Zohr is the largest natural gas field in the Mediterranean. Its discovery in 2015 nearly doubled Egypt's reserves.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi inaugurated on Monday the second edition of Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2018).
The Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2018) is set to take place from February 12 to 14, 2018.
The exhibition aims to bring together the region’s key stakeholders shaping the energy industry’s future, noted the event organizer Global Energy of dmg events in a statement.
The EGYPS 2018 exhibition provides the largest and most important platform for industry professionals to gain insights into the upcoming oil and gas opportunities in Egypt and North Africa, from future licensing rounds, project requirements to short and long-term strategic plans and priorities.
The conference will feature four dedicated conference tracks, hosting over 150 expert speakers and attracting over 1,000 conference delegates.
The tracks are Strategic, Technical, Women in Energy and the new Security in Energy.
The two-day conference will host global business leaders discussing key industry topics to support global progress, develop international frameworks and foster growth through strategic partnerships focusing on the shifting dynamics of global trade markets as well as emerging North African and Mediterranean energy hubs for product export and transit.
The first edition of the show EGYPS 2017 ran from February 13 to 15, 2017.
