President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on Tuesday chaired the second meeting of the National Payments Council.

Attending the meeting were the prime minister, the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, the heads of the National Bank of Egypt, the Administrative Control Authority and the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority, in addition to the ministers of defense, planning, interior, communications, justice and finance.

Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said CBE Governor Tarek Amer reviewed the new formation of the council and its sub-committees, which were formed in coordination with all ministries and bodies concerned.

Amer also tackled decisions taken during the council's first meeting, which was held in May, including a study to develop non-cash financial transactions and measures taken to set up a national payment card system.

The finance minister presented a report on the currently-applied banking system of the consolidated treasury account, which aims at automating all the governmental payments.
