CAIRO – 28 September 2017: Egypt will participate in the COMESA 10th meeting of infrastructure ministers on October 4 and 5 in Lusaka.

In a press statement released on Thursday, the Electricity Ministry asserted that the Ministry’s First Undersecretary for Research, Planning, Authorities' Follow up Mohamed Omran will head today to the Zambian capital Lusaka, to attend the meeting on behalf of Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker.

Delegations from the ministries of telecommunications, transport, civil aviation, water resources and trade are expected to partake in the COMESA meeting of infrastructure ministers along with the electricity ministry’s delegation, Omran said.

The ministerial meeting will review the results of the tenth report of the COMESA’s committees of transportation, telecommunications and information technology, Omran added.

Also, the meeting will probe a number of key issues, including the application of COMESA energy models to the energy policies of the COMESA member states and following up resolutions issued during the 9th meeting of COMESA infrastructure ministers in 2016 on the development of renewable energy sources, in addition to rationalizing the energy in the member states, he noted.

A host of topics on electricity and power are slated to be discussed in the COMESA meeting, especially with regard to boosting energy trade among the member states.
