CAIRO – 13 August 2017: Ministry of Petroleum renewed Sunday usage rights of the areas needed to build Asyut-Sohag butane gas line for one more year, according to a decree published by the Official Gazette.

The decision comes as the construction works of the transmission line are not finished yet, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) Abed Ezz al-Regal said in a statement.

Contractor of Asyut-Sohag line, EGPC-affiliated Petrojet, was not able to conclude works on schedule due to repetitive protests of residents in the project’s site.

The EGPC has the official approvals of the Ministry of Agriculture, governors of Asyut and Sohag and the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), to resume working on the project.
