CAIRO - 13 May 2026: Egypt has announced a new natural gas discovery in the Nile Delta, with estimated production of around 50 million cubic feet per day, following the successful drilling of the Nidoco N-2 exploration well in the West Abu Madi concession area in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said the well was drilled by rig EDC 56 in shallow waters at a depth of around 10 meters, approximately 3 kilometers offshore in the West Abu Madi area.
It added that the concession area is operated by Eni in partnership with BP.
The ministry noted that the well was drilled from onshore using advanced directional drilling techniques, which helped reduce operational costs and improve efficiency.
It also highlighted that the well is located less than 2 kilometers from existing production facilities, enabling rapid connection to the national gas grid within a short period, supporting early production and improving investment returns.
The discovery is seen as part of Egypt’s ongoing strategy to maximize output from existing infrastructure, enhance domestic gas production, and secure local energy supplies, while reinforcing the role of international partners in supporting exploration and development activities in the country.
