CAIRO - 6 April 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla to review key aspects of Egypt’s economic performance during the current period.
During the meeting, El-Sisi was briefed on ongoing efforts to maintain the decline in inflation, increase foreign currency inflows, and strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves, alongside progress in economic and structural reforms.
The discussions also covered measures taken by the government, particularly the Central Bank and the banking sector, in response to the current regional situation. Abdalla said Egypt has safe levels of foreign currency reserves that are sufficient to secure strategic imports of essential goods, as well as production inputs needed by factories.
El-Sisi stressed the importance of continuing efforts to meet foreign currency needs in support of production requirements and to reinforce the strategic stock of key commodities. He also directed authorities to maintain momentum in lowering inflation and ensure continued coordination between the government and the Central Bank to preserve a flexible and unified exchange rate regime.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to improve the performance of the banking sector, as well as developments in external debt as a percentage of gross domestic product and the implications for the broader macroeconomic outlook.
Officials discussed expanding financing opportunities for the private sector to support economic growth, attract more investment inflows, and strengthen the sector’s role in overall economic activity.
El-Sisi instructed relevant authorities to enhance incentives that would help capitalize on available economic opportunities and meet financing needs that support development efforts, while ensuring sufficient foreign currency resources to maintain stable supplies of essential goods.
The meeting further addressed Egypt’s preparations to host the 33rd Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank from June 21 to 24, 2026.
Abdalla said hosting the event reflects Egypt’s role as a key driver of regional integration in Africa, especially amid rising global uncertainty, shifting economic dynamics, deepening geopolitical realignments, and escalating conflicts, which highlight the need to strengthen African self-reliance and develop regional value chains.
