Red Sea ports: Increased cargo traffic via Safaga, Nuweiba ports

CAIRO - 17 March 2026: The Red Sea Ports Authority announced a significant increase in import and export activity at the ports of Safaga and Nuweiba during the first half of March 2026, registering a substantial rise in the number of trucks and goods compared to the same period last year.
 
Safaga Port
 
Safaga Port saw 39 trips, a 50-percent increase compared to the same period last year. The total number of trucks reached 7,643, a 36 percent increase. Exports totaled 4,058, a 52-percent increase, while imports reached 3,585, a 20-percent increase compared to the same period last year.
 
Nuweiba Port
 
Nuweiba Port recorded a total of 4,730 trucks, a 91-percent increase compared to the previous month. Of these, 2,185 were exports and 2,545 were imports. The volume of goods transported reached 67,879 tons, a 26-percent increase compared to the previous month, comprising 54,206 tons of exports and 13,673 tons of imports.
 
This dynamic activity reflects the significant growth in truck and cargo traffic, underscoring the strategic importance of Egyptian ports in regional and international trade.
 
The Ports Authority indicated that the ongoing infrastructure development and modernization projects have directly contributed to increased operational efficiency and faster loading and unloading operations, reinforcing Egypt's role as a major logistics hub connecting East and West, increasing the country's economic returns, and reflecting the strength of the national economy in the face of global challenges.
