Cairo – February 9, 2025: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, is scheduled to meet with senior Spanish officials, business leaders, and heads of business federations to discuss ways to boost trade and investment opportunities between the two nations during a visit to Madrid.
Aimed at enhancing the economic relations between Egypt and Spain, the visit will focus on presenting Egypt’s investment potential and the advantages of its market, while reviewing the country’s economic policies.
Key areas of discussion will include exploring avenues to increase bilateral trade and joint investments.
The minister will highlight the Egyptian government’s efforts to improve financial, monetary, and commercial policies, aimed at easing trade and facilitating foreign investment into Egypt.
Throughout his visit, El-Khatib will engage with officials from Spanish companies operating in a wide range of sectors, including energy, hotels, hydrogen, ready-made garments, engineering, infrastructure, health, and aviation.
The minister is also scheduled to meet with members of the Spanish Hydrogen Association, the Spanish Chambers of Commerce Union, and representatives from the Egyptian-Spanish Joint Business Council, as well as the president and members of the Spanish Business Organizations Union.
The visit follows recent developments in Egypt-Spain cooperation, including the signing of a $1 million development financing agreement.
The agreement focuses on a feasibility study for extending Cairo Metro's Line 1, with the aim of improving urban transportation. Spanish company Typsa will lead the study, in partnership with Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels.
This study, which is expected to be completed within eight months, will assess the 19-kilometer extension from New Marg to Shibin El Qanater, located to the north of Cairo.
The project is part of Egypt’s broader climate change initiative, the nexus of water, food, and energy program, which is aiming to raise over $14 billion for nine priority projects in water, food, energy, and sustainable transportation.
