The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) allocated EGP 7.6 billion during the fiscal year 2023/2024 to upgrade and expand its high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage infrastructure, according to Chairwoman Mona Rizk.

During a meeting with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, Rizk highlighted that the investments were directed towards completing ongoing projects, expanding existing facilities, and establishing new stations, lines, and cables.

The company also advanced regional control centers and incorporated renewable energy projects into the national grid.

EETC’s renewable energy capacity—spanning wind, solar, and hydroelectric power—has reached 22.8 gigawatts across operational, under-construction, and soon-to-be-contracted projects. To further stabilize the national grid, battery energy storage initiatives are underway.

The company achieved remarkable progress in maintenance, with a 99 percent completion rate for high-voltage transformer stations, 100 percent for cables, and 97 percent for overhead lines.

These efforts were complemented by the optimization of network utilization through load redistribution and protection system upgrades, enhancing overall grid stability.

EETC also reported a total energy generation of 229.1 gigawatt-hours during FY 2023/2024, marking a 6 percent growth.

Close coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and the petroleum sector has ensured efficient fuel use and stable operation of the electrical and natural gas grids.

Significant milestones include the trial operation of the new National Control Center in the New Administrative Capital, upgrades to Cairo’s control center, and the establishment of the Delta Control Center to oversee operations across six governorates.

The Benban Control Center is now fully operational, monitoring solar energy production to ensure compliance with grid connection standards. These developments underscore EETC’s commitment to modernizing Egypt’s energy infrastructure while embracing sustainability.
